One-Way Privacy Window Film

One of the keys to a successful business is trying to entice clients and customers to look your way, rather than at your competitors.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean you want people peeping through your windows when your employees or colleagues are trying to work. That’s why the mirror finish of one-way privacy window film can prove to be an essential addition to your commercial space.

What is one-way mirror window film?

This is a type of self-adhesive reflective window film that can be applied to your windows and doors. It’s very effective at giving the glass a mirrored appearance, increasing daytime privacy at a fraction of the cost of replacing the glass.

How does one-way window film work?

One-way mirror window film works because it has reflective silver finish like a mirror, which allows someone indoors to see outside but blocks out the view to passers-by on the street or outside of the room.

It’s worth remembering though that the mirror effect of the film only works when the light is brighter on the outside than it is on the inside. This means the privacy effect won’t be as strong in the evening or at night when the lights are on inside your office or commercial property.

Generally, it’s the darker films that are the most reflective and likely to add privacy.

What are the benefits of using one-way window film in a commercial setting?

The main benefit of using one way window film is the increased privacy it offers when applied to any flat glass surface. From the inside, you can still see out, but other people can’t see in. They will simply just be staring at their reflection in the mirrored film on your glass.

Aside from the increased privacy, mirror film can also reduce heat. It reflects solar heat while letting light through. This means excess heat is prevented from continually raising the temperature to uncomfortable levels (which can save you money on energy by not having to crank up the air conditioning).

By using one way privacy window film you’ll also enjoy glare reduction, making it much more comfortable to work on a screen in bright sunlight. They also help block harmful UV rays, without having to resort to closing the curtains or blinds.

How long does one-way privacy window film last?

You can expect your window film to last at least 5 years. That’s why we offer an industry-leading 5-year warranty for our privacy film.

Frequently asked questions about one-way privacy window film

Can the one-way window film be removed without damaging the window?

You can remove one way mirror film from glass quite easily if you decide to replace it. Just remember that you can’t reuse the same film over and over.

Simply peel it off the glass pane and make sure you clean away any residue with soapy water

Does one-way window film provide privacy during both day and night?

Realistically, one way privacy window film is only really suitable for use in daylight when the sun is brightest. At night, the mirror effect of the film won’t be as strong when the lights are on inside your office or commercial property, but it is dark outside.

If your windows face north with no sunlight hitting the film, you probably won’t achieve privacy at the same level.

How effective is one-way window film in reducing heat and glare?

If glare is proving to be a big problem in your commercial building, one way mirror film is a simple solution. And probably a more popular one than closing all the curtains and blinds on a sunny day.

Mirrored window film can reduce glare by filtering out the harshest sunlight, letting comfortable levels of light pass through whilst still maintaining daytime privacy. A bit like putting a light pair of sunglasses on your windows.

An added benefit is that reflective film can help with heat reduction, so summer days in the workplace don’t have to equal discomfort.

Does the one-way window film block UV rays?

Thanks to privacy window film, you can filter out roughly 99% of harmful UV light. And by reducing the UV light levels in internal rooms, you could help protect furniture and equipment from fading and prevent discomfort in those that are trying to work.

Can one-way window film be applied to different types of glass surfaces?

Reflective mirror film can be used on internal glass as well as your external (public-facing) windows too.

It’s an ideal choice if there are parts of your business premises that need that extra little bit of discretion, such as waiting rooms or as an extra security measure to hide expensive equipment from view.

How is one-way window film maintained and cleaned?

Allow 30 days after installation for it to adhere properly to the glass, and then clean the window film with non-abrasive cloths and mild soapy water.

It’s best to avoid industrial-strength cleaners or pads that could scratch the surface of your privacy film, as this will spoil the overall appearance with unnecessary wear and tear.

Can one-way window film be used on windows with curved or irregular shapes?

Although one-way privacy effect films are a versatile and cost-effective solution in lots of different situations, they can only be applied to smooth, non-textured glass.

As long as the surface is smooth, mirror window films will be suitable for your windows and doors, including double-glazed units.

Will one-way window film affect the natural light?

Just because the view of passers-by is blocked doesn’t mean people inside will be shrouded in darkness.

However, privacy window film will have an effect on the amount of natural light that passes into the room. For example, our SX-SG09 Silver / Grey One Way Daytime Privacy window films allow for a visible light transmission level of 9% and our decorative SX-6030 Antique Mirror One Way Vision window films offer a visible light transmission level of 7%.

But compared to installing blinds and keeping them closed, you’ll still be able to enjoy privacy and a light, comfortable room during daylight hours.
